Volunteers are the heart and soul of our mission! We have ongoing volunteer opportunities for various time commitments and skills. What brings you joy? Let us help you determine how you can best serve others with your talents.

Volunteer Opportunities at The Carying Place

Donations of household goods and support of TCP fundraising activities are always welcome. There are also numerous volunteer opportunities requiring various levels of commitment and training. TCP staff will accommodate volunteer’s schedules for most items.

Support Partners

This volunteer meets weekly with their assigned families and helps them through steps leading to sustainable, permanent housing.

Caring Sponsors

Serve as friends and mentors to their assigned families and make informal contact each week.

Data Entry/Office Assistance

A volunteer helps maintain the files and computer records for TCP staff and families as well as answer TCP office phone lines and complete family intakes by phone.

Maintenance/Repairs Teams

Volunteers provide pre-occupancy prep, routine repairs, and maintenance of apartments including painting, cleaning, and minor repairs.

Children’s Program

Volunteers care for children of both families and volunteers during the weekly sessions working with a TCP Children’s Program Coordinator to help children find stability and self-esteem as they go through the transition from homelessness.

Meal Providers

Volunteers organize a team from a church, social, or civic group to prepare and serve meals to TCP families and volunteers at the weekly sessions. This is needed at the beginning of the year, to fill the annual calendar.

Our Volunteer Process

  1. Fill out the Volunteer Sign Up Form.
  2. You will receive an email with instructions on how to complete and pay for the background check.
  3. Print and fill out the additional Volunteer Forms.
  4. Email, mail or drop off forms to the office in person (491 James Jackson Avenue. Cary, NC 27513)
  5. Forms will be processed within a week. You will be contacted to schedule further training.
  6. You will be assigned to the position of your choice and will begin volunteering.
