Leslie Covington, MSW Executive Director

Leslie Covington joined The Carying Place as Executive Director in 2015. She obtained her Bachelor of Social Work degree at North Carolina State University and further developed a love for human services through her training and work with the YWCA, InterAct of Wake County, The Tammy Lynn Center, and her local church’s outreach department.

Inspired by empowering at-risk and low-income families and youth, she continued her experience through 18 years of service as a Youth Director, Director of Outreach, and Senior Youth Director for the YMCA of the Triangle. Leslie then felt the need “to go deeper” with serving families and returned to NCSU for her Master of Social Work degree, where she graduated and practiced as a licensed NC Clinical Social Worker and Substance Abuse Therapist.

At this time in her life, Leslie strives to use her passion, as well as her many years in the non-profit and clinical arenas to lead and inspire others to achieve financial stability and mobility. When speaking of her work with the Carying Place, Leslie shared “I’m inspired by the legacy of such a long-standing organization and the support we receive from our community. The Carying Place is strategically focused on financial literacy and skill building to break the cycle of poverty that plagues many working families in the Triangle area. There is no better life mission than that!”
